Thin Lips/Shapeless Lips

What are Thin Lips/Shapeless Lips?

Thin Lips: These are lips with less fullness or volume, particularly in the upper or lower lip. Thin lips can appear less defined or plump, making them look flatter or narrower.

Shapeless Lips: Shapeless lips lack defined structure or contour. This can make the lips look less balanced or less symmetrical, without a clear lip line, cupid's bow, or distinct separation between the upper and lower lip.

Lips Anatomy

Vermilion Border: The sharp outline separates the lips from the surrounding skin.

Cupid's Bow: The double curve at the center of the upper lip.

Philtrum: The two raised lines between the nose and upper lip, adding contour and definition.

Lip Mucosa: The inner part of the lips

Types of Lip Shapes:

Full Lips: Plump and balanced lips with volume in both upper and lower lips.

Thin Lips: Minimal volume and less definition in both upper and lower lips.

Heart-Shaped Lips: A prominent cupid's bow, with a fuller bottom lip.

Round Lips: Equally full upper and lower lips with a rounded appearance.

Bow-Shaped Lips: Defined cupid's bow with distinct peaks.

Wide Lips: Lips that extend further toward the corners, creating a broad appearance.

Causes of Thin or Shapeless Lips:

Genetics: Lip shape, fullness, and definition are largely determined by genetics. Some people naturally have thinner or less-defined lips.

Aging: As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, leading to reduced volume and definition in the lips. Skin elasticity decreases, which can cause lips to lose shape.

Lifestyle: Factors like smoking, sun exposure, and dehydration can contribute to thinning or shapeless lips over time by affecting skin quality and collagen production.

Thin Lips Treatment Option:

Option 1: Teosyal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers designed to add volume, shape and structure.

For patients that are middle aged or older and want a very subtle change, and for those who never had fillers before, a soft filler like Teosyal RHA2/RHA Kiss with a low g-prime (stiffness/elasticity) is suitable and it gives a hydration effect.

For patients who want a noticeable and lasting result, Teosyal RHA3 is more robust for added volume in thin lips. It is designed to provide greater projection, fuller volume, and definition to the lips. It is more cohesive and long-lasting filler, allowing it to hold its shape well, which can be particularly helpful for shapeless lips needing enhanced contour and structure.

For patients with lines and wrinkles, loss of volume, skin elasticity and sagging around the perioral area, a combination package of lip fillers along with nasolabial folds, marionette and smoker's lines can give an instant lift and refreshed appearance.
